A recent report from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources estimated that around 178 tons of lead were deposited on state lands during the 2017 small game hunting season. Lead is toxic to wildlife when consumed and unsafe at any amount in humans.

On May 14th, of this year the Minnesota House of Representatives voted on an amendment to repeal a 2016 law that prohibited the Department of Natural Resources from taking action to reduce the amount of lead shot used on public lands. The amendment did not pass.
